Our Life Skills Academy guide students on the following goals: 1) Character buildings for all members, 2) Empowerment for our students to grow, and 3) Cultivate future leaders with compassion and courage. Ultimately, we want to empowers children and young adults to achieve their true potential, while cultivating future leaders to spread ethical and humanitarian values in our communities.
1. One on One Mentoring: Weekly one-on-one session between mentor and mentee
2. Group Mentoring: Training on AASuccess’ Core Values and Educate-Inspire-Motivate model
3. Training on practical and/or community projects
Even after hundreds of students we have helped, it is never about the quantity. It is always about how deep we touch a person.
AASuccess carries the mission of giving guidance to young students to search and discover their life values, empower them to thrive, and most importantly, become people with character and integrity. It all starts with our core mentoring program: Life Skills Academy.
The Life Skills Academy equips our members with a real life skill set and on-the-job training experience. We create a trusted environment where our members feel safe to try out new ideas in their projects and where they can learn from their mistakes and embrace failure rather than being afraid of it.
Students are paired up with caring mentors who get to know them personally, advocate for them, and motivate them to step out of their comfort zone by taking on new challenges and perfecting their skill set. Then, with our network of professionals and community partners, together we create a platform for our students to practice their skills on a bigger scale in the form of student-run giving back projects and student-run scholarship programs.
We create a safe environment where students can challenge themselves without the fear of failure.
With the trust and reliability provided through the one-on-one mentoring structure, we create magic. Magic occurs when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves. We have witnessed this magic first-hand by observing the many wonderful changes in our students over time:
- From a hypersensitive person whose feelings could easily be hurt by a friend’s comment to a mentor and role model for young students in Vietnam.
- From a shy girl who can’t look directly into a stranger’s eyes to someone who speaks elegantly and confidently at our annual AASuccess Gala.
- From a student with dreams of becoming a chef after high school to a university student who is studying engineering and teaching English to little kids in rural areas in Vietnam in his spare time.
Giving back starts from the heart. Our members might be young and make many mistakes, but we empower them to continuously strive to act and give back in their own capacity
The personal changes of our students ripple forward and multiply with each of our members. We teach our students, then they in turn help others and give back in their own capacity. That way, they inspire each other to be better. It adds ripples to the circle of goodness so that it can grow bigger and bigger.
